URRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGG......went to a trout resevoir today because I heard there are smallies in there as well......Well there are, and they are huge.......They were all lurking in the shallows, big ones, small ones, some trout swimming about as well.....I threw everything I could, some of these smallies had to go 4 or 5 pounds....I caught 2 little tiny guys, 8 inchers, I had one huge fish follow but he took off last minute. The others would just sit there looking at me....I do believe that they are eating little trout. Going to need to tie up some trout imitations....There are tigers, browns, rainbows and some brookies in there. I'm pretty sure I will be the only person up there targeting small mouth...haha....oh yeah...my new challenge....

One of the things that I enjoy about fly fishing from a kayak is the ability to escape from people. Silence is golden at times....I had a fairly relaxing morning on the water....Missed about 5 fish, landed one nice LMB....Rocking with the new Sage Large Mouth rod, an orange belly diving frog, and the Commander kayak....What more could I ask for.....

As I'm leaving my parking area, which is a road that is half washed out, that ends with a gate near the town of boy you have a pretty mouth....Down from the entrance comes these two fine specimens....I'm pretty sure they are the town representatives....I think...Great...now what....I can't get out, the combined 600 pounds between them is blocking the entire drive out...Down they come....Sigh....Over to my half open window....#1...mumble mumble...."puttin in some new bush, cuttin some dead ones down".....excellent start.....I say "ohhhh, that's really great man"....his eyes grow huge as if he was getting his prostrate examined....."but some one done put a boulder in the middle"....In the middle of what I think.....I say.."oh that's not good.....how'd it get there"....#2...."Some one must have brought a bucket to the lot"....Well gentlemen...."I don't have a bucket on this here jeep.....enjoy your afternoon"....Really.....As I pull into my town...15 minutes later....I'm welcomed by a smoking asian man walking down the middle of the road not moving for traffic and a mexican man scratching his genitals while talking on his cell phone on main street.....What is going on..... hmmmmmm.....That's why I don't like to leave the water....Tight lines

A white pick up pulls in the lot.....Out steps a man with a doo rag on.....Goes into the truck bed, out comes two fly rods...I think excellent....He begins to stroll up the path, stops, watches me tossing some line for a moment..."Hey" shouts he....I turn and ask..."What's up man?".....His response..."Aren't you in the wrong resevoir?"....I respond..."No I don't believe so"...."Why?"....Joe Dirt responds...."The trout are all over there"...I sigh....."They sure are, good thing I'm trying to catch bass"....Man responds..."But your fly fishing, you should be catching trout"....I growled...."I sure am fly fishing, fly fishing for bass"....I think at this point his bandana must have tightened...His next statement..."But bass are easy to catch, you should be trying to catch tiger trout"....I say..."Wow you're right, stocked fish are extremely difficult to catch...*sarcasm*....Well, I think that depends on how you're trying to catch them....By the way, what is the biggest bass you have landed with a fly rod?....Man stumbling a little...."Well...ahhhh....I'm going to catch me some tiger trout....."...."Good luck"...knuckles...........
I bought a Sage Largemouth rod yesterday...Thought I would bring it out this morning to a little resevoir close to home....Pounded the water with all I had....One follow....One hook up....Definetly not the bass I was hoping for with the new rod....But a fish is a fish...At least I got to get the line wet and a little fish slimed....I think the fact that it was in the 40's last night....helped to put the big boys down a little....A few days of sun...it'll be back to good....

So far I am impressed with the rod....It is a super fast action very stiff rod....With one back cast and a good double haul you can half empty your reel....Takes a little getting used to, roll casting is a little tricky....Throws big wind resistant flies with ease....Can't wait to take it to a better lake for some real bass buggin action....

Thought it was going to rain....Slept in a little....Called my buddy, he needed a hand learning to cast big bass bugs easier....Picked him up, took off to a little resevoir that I never fish....Taught single and double hauling techniques....During the lesson managed a home run in the res...Perch, Bluegill, Large mouth, Small mouth....I hooked two small mouth that I don't have photos of.....One other large mouth...and foul hooked one of the gills, so no photo of him either...Missed a bunch, lost a foxee red minnow to a giant smallie.....Put my hand in a pile of goose shit....A great start to what should be a crazy day at work....Tight Lines....

Cloudy outside......Not sure what to do.....Grab your fly rod and go BASS BUGGIN......That's right....Throw huge deer hair bugs into the lily pads and weeds.....It's not the easiest way to catch bass....But it sure is exciting...Sure you'll get snagged, hung up, occasionally frustrated....but the rewards can be well worth the work.....Caught a couple of pickerel as well.....But the bucket stole the show.....Rock out with your bass bug out......

Hey there hoe there fellow fishheads....The morning was an early start today, woke up accidently at 6 am due to my cat bugger knock knock knocking at the bedroom door....nonstop....little shit....Loaded the yak, off to smallieville....The water even after the rain yesterday was the lowest I've seen it this year....I had trouble getting the boat through some of the areas that I like to fish....Rocks rocks and more rocks....Bluebird skies and a little breeze made for a beautiful morning in the sun....Landed four fish all together.....Hooked 3 that were a long distance release...Such is life....

The Schoharie Special Sexy Shad and a White Zoo Cougar were the flies of the day...The Cougar catching the two bigger fish....

Went on an adventure today...Indian Lake in the Speculator area of the Adirondacks....Amazing place...I don't know why I haven't been there before...Better late then never I suppose....My better half and I brought the yaks and a paddling we went...I did a little fishing here and there...My goal was some Pike....However...I apparently couldn't read a map to get out of a paper bag if I needed to...I found this map that has the lake sectioned off by species...I thought I was fishing the areas where the pike hang....Following the map contours...Only to find out 4 hours into our paddling that I was reading land contours not lake contours the entire time...Laughing to myself I managed to hook to smallies before the day ended...Note to self...Work on navigation skills.....Great day...I can't wait to do some camping on the islands in the lake....Hopefully next weekend will bring us to another great lake in the Adirondack park...Tight lines...
