Soooooo...Went on my first trip to the upper end of the Mohawk River today..This was the beginning of my first Pike/Tiger Muskie attempt on a fly...I definetly underestimated the size of this river....I am a small river/stream/creek fisherman...Out of a kayak....Kayak fishing on the Mohawk is rough...There is so much ground to cover, huge boats, fishing boats, wakes everywhere.....The water is filled with debris and garbage...We made a good effort....3 1/2 hours, no takes, no sightings, nothing on the fish finders....We meander to a large lake in the area instead...1 mile wide, 6 miles long, again lots of big boats but not unmanageable in a kayak....There was no wind in sight, anywhere...We launch...3 minutes later the wind picks up and there are 2 1/2 foot swells crashing over the kayaks.....We got beat up a little on the water...So we ran over to a local resevoir and ran into Gills and Bass getting ready to spawn. The shallows were loaded with more fish then I've ever seen....In rows like soldiers, all hungry for top water....We must of caught 40 or so each....Great times...A rough beginning to the day, but a great ending...I'm exhausted....But those gills make me smile....Here's some pics....Tight lines...
