The trip of the season

My buddy Marc and I do some steelhead fishing together during our long upstate NY winters. We've been chit chatting back and forth all summer about getting together for a warm water trip. So yesterday it happened..Marc wanted to catch smallies and attempt his first walleye on the fly. We hooked up and I played guide on my favorite stretch of water....The results were utterly ridiculous..Between the two us us we boated more then 80 fish. Rock Bass, Small Mouth, Fall Fish and Walleye all came to fly and hand. Most were in the 10-14 inch range, with a few lunkers thrown in the mix as well. My Walleye was about 22 inches, Marc's was 23. A great fish for the first on the fly...Marc said it was the best day fishing warm water that he's ever had...I was just glad my water performed up to the standards that I know it can. Here's some pics...

Smallies

A little smallie float from the weekend...a bit of a disappointment...we floated a piece of water that turned out to be 50% mud and slop....not a rock formation to be found...hence...no bass...a little slow going..but about 20 fish between the two of us boated and safely released...

It's been a bit

I have to admit...as of late I have had trouble keeping on on posts...I've been tying so many orders that I have not had much time to get out and chase fish...My last couple of outings were terrible fails....

Take for example two weeks ago....My buddy Rusty Spinner and I decided to chase some carp...We hit the water for maybe 45 minutes..then tragedy....RS blew out his ankle on a rather sketchy section of river that needed to be crossed...One fish spotted....missed....and back to the cars we went calling it a day....

Last weekend....Phil and I hit a larger lake in the morning..before the storms were supposed to roll in..We were on the water, bluebird skies...then a mile from the dock the wind picked up...2 foot consistent swells followed by gusts of wind that produced bigger waves...We struggled to make it back....which in kayaks is no small task...only to run into serious trouble 3/4 of a mile away still...The waves were rolling over the boats, eventually swamping me and tipping my boat over. Luckily we were close to shore and no gear was lost. Proof that there are still good people in the world...The people whose property we landed on were kind enough to let us bring our gear up their front lawn and gave us a ride back to cars...Thanks to them, we ended up just fine in the end....

Two days ago...I decide to take a break from orders and chase some carp...I make it 30 minutes...Miss a few fish, then hear a terrible sound...A snort...a rumble...a growl of sorts...I look up from changing my fly to find a rather large bull starring me down...I gather my gear and begin my walk to the car...Then as the bull got closer...my walk became a steady Olympic speed walk....the bull chased me down till he got about 30 feet from me and turned off...I jumped the fence, made it to my car and ended my day...

So this weekend we will try again....so instead of fish porn...here's a few orders I have put out instead...
