Well first day in a few that has been sunny. I did however need to scrape the ice off my windshield before loading my kayak....Ohhhhh Mother Nature.....I went to my beloved smallie stream....I fished a section that I don't often visit....I got skunked. It seems as though the high floods from winter run off this year put a layer of silt and mud over all the rocky bottom. So....It seems as though the fish may have migrated from this section towards a cleaner stream bottom.....That's why they call it fishing and not catching....Till next time...Tight lines....

I haven't been able to fish due the the lovely climate I live in. We have had 3 days of rain, snow, ridiculously high winds and very cold temps with hard frosts in the morning. So I tied flies.....

VP....Well today was an off day..It was chilly to start, 47 degrees....A ton of wind, then my waders leaked...making my legs and feet cold along with the rest of me...I am a kayak fisherman, but I thought it would be fun to fish from shore....My fishing buddy caught 2 pickerel and a gill, I got skunked....Home I went with a cold chill and clean hands....I did however see two Bald Eagles working their magic, flying over head in circles around the lake....Majestic animals.....Till next time...tight lines and bend rods...........

I am usually a deer hair popper only guy...but I decided to try my hand at hard bodied poppers...These are my first attempts....They are not pretty by any means, but they will catch fish....Maybe over the winter I'll try my hand at this again....

Went to my beloved small mouth creek this morning for a quick little paddle buggy whip session....Missed two on top, hooked em, played them for about a second each, then they threw it....It's cool though, top water action has turned on....That's all I really needed to know....Landed one with a streamer....Got out of the water and packed up just before the little clouds emptied on my head....

Soooooo...Went on my first trip to the upper end of the Mohawk River today..This was the beginning of my first Pike/Tiger Muskie attempt on a fly...I definetly underestimated the size of this river....I am a small river/stream/creek fisherman...Out of a kayak....Kayak fishing on the Mohawk is rough...There is so much ground to cover, huge boats, fishing boats, wakes everywhere.....The water is filled with debris and garbage...We made a good effort....3 1/2 hours, no takes, no sightings, nothing on the fish finders....We meander to a large lake in the area instead...1 mile wide, 6 miles long, again lots of big boats but not unmanageable in a kayak....There was no wind in sight, anywhere...We launch...3 minutes later the wind picks up and there are 2 1/2 foot swells crashing over the kayaks.....We got beat up a little on the water...So we ran over to a local resevoir and ran into Gills and Bass getting ready to spawn. The shallows were loaded with more fish then I've ever seen....In rows like soldiers, all hungry for top water....We must of caught 40 or so each....Great times...A rough beginning to the day, but a great ending...I'm exhausted....But those gills make me smile....Here's some pics....Tight lines...
