Big trip out today...A buddy of mine tells me of a spot that is the prettiest section of creek in his opinion...You can float the entire stretch with minimal walking....I say great...My step dad and I make the first car drop off....Drive on to the starting point...As we drive we were both kind of thinking that it seemed like an awful long drive to begin....Moving forward...We go on as planned....11 hours later reaching our destination...My friend said it takes him 2 1/2 hours to float it...haha....We walked over half the trip lugging our gear and boats of some of the most slippery rocks I have ever walked on...Lots of laughs were had...We both fell in the water....He landed 7 fish...I landed 17...A good but thoroughly exhausting day was had..Wait until I see my buddy...No walking.....Bastard.....Somewhere around 7 miles was covered on this float...Water I will most likely never revisit....Off to another spot tomorrow bright and early....

Fishing sucked today...The vibe was off....I was having no fun for the first time ever...Not sure what was up....So I came home and finished these for my friend Dave Lindsay instead.....

Went to a little swampy ass mud puddle today because I knew there were giant carp slopping around in there....Hooked up on two....The first one ran me across the pond and into the weeds scaring every possible fish in the water....He threw the hook in the cat tails...The second was almost landed, within netting distance....Then spit it out at me...Ahhh...The joys of barbless fishing....It was nice to feel that power again though.....They took olive colored Clouser swimming nymphs....Bounced real slow through the mud plume.....

My new obsession.....Carp on the fly....Thanks to my friend Alex from Hatches magazine, hooking me up on my first carp on the fly today...Oh my....I've never had my reel spin that out of control before....Had me into backing on the first run before it broke me off.....Sight fishing at it's best......Technical fishing, long casts, 50-70 feet with an 8 weight....A weighted fly.....little splash upon the fly hitting the water, small strips 3-6 inches....Perfect presentations...These are spooky fish that are not easy to catch...but well worth the effort...I only hooked up on one, didn't even land it and I can feel the obsession building...This was the first time ever that I was getting annoyed catching bass....Landed 9 of those....photos courtesy of Alex...

Blue bird skies didn't help the topwater bite this morning...Managed a couple though.....I have a new fly...The Slop Mop...A combo of things I like from different flies all in one....Very light, durable, doesn't water log, glides over the weed slop, wiggles if you want, throws a ton of water, good stuff.....
