Pike Flies

This is my first set of Pike flies.....Something new this year I'm doing....going Pike and Muskie fishing with the long rod....Should be killer.....I have many more to come.....

well.......

after driving in circles all week trying to find an open still body of water in my general location....I had to drive 40 miles east to find a lake without ice a top of it....first kayak outing of the year.....beautiful day, nice paddling, I'm going to hurt in places I didn't know existed by morning I'm sure.....not a one fish......new lake, second time there....I heard stories that fish live there.....couldn't even see a sign of fish.....people on the water....not a one of them caught anything either.....my understanding now is that it is heavily stocked, heavily fished, and most people do not practice catch and release that fish it....it's a shame.....beautiful setting....all in all....a great fishless day out....

new ideas

A fly made mostly of marabou...imitating both sunfish and perch....a new idea I'm playing around with.....my first two prototypes.....

This is a fly by Kelly Galloup....These are my first attempts at tying them.....I think they will kill in warmwater.....Orignally they were made to catch big browns on the Madison.....

1st Attempt

So my first real attempt this year to go and fish.....Mohawk River...Fortplain area....High, muddy, fast moving...sink line....the only bump I thought I had, upon hook set, turned out to be a 4 foot long branch.....It's going to be a while for the river systems to settle down to a fishing level......
