Pike

Oh man...I have a new addiction...they were on the small side...but my oh my....the explosive takes but these little snot rockets is something that will make noises come out of your mouth like you never new were in you...My first Pike on the fly today...landed 3, missed another 5...including 2 that were in the 3 foot range...1 in particular came back 4 times and slashed at my fly, but missed each time...can't wait for next time...

The fly that hit them all....

  1. I wish we had pike in Oregon. I've fished (key word "fished") for them in Alaska before and watching those snakey fish chasing your fly or lure is exhilarating in and of itself.

Awesome catches you got there - and that's a sexy fly you got 'em on. Wonder what those "small" fish would be like on say, a 6 weight? Or maybe even stepped down to a 4, if there's not a lot of snags or heavy brush for them to run into...

  2. Very sweet. I've always wanted to try them but there're not a lot of waters around here that hold pike.

  3. I'm a pike virgin myself, but I plan on hitting them up this summer. They've been in some lakes around here for years, I just never tried. That steel leader you're using might convince me to tie some flies with the steel leader tied into the fly old school style to save weight and my bamboo rod tips! Nice looking fish! I'm definitely jealous

  4. I warned you brother! They are the crack of freshwater fish. Quit now while you still can!

  8. Pat-
one thing to try, assuming that you have larger pike in the water, is longer flies. I generally run mine about 10-12 inches when dry. You will not catch as many smaller fish, but will greatly increase the size of your fish. Let me know if your interested and we can swap a few flies. I would love to try the orange one with the new FishHead just to see how it runs compared to my foam/fishskin heads i use now.

  9. coaster101...they can be tied as big as you would need them I suppose..It wouldn't be hard to go 10 inches instead of 6 on those...let me know if I can make you some...

James..swapping at the moment is a bit tough...maybe in the winter time...I have several of your flies actually from other swaps we've done...
